I remember the term and music category “emo” came about when I was in high school. I’ll admit, I considered myself pretty “emo” in grade 11-12 (2003-2006). My pictures are way too embarrassing to be publicly displayed. Anyhow, according to this timeline in Paste Magazine, I was four years behind.
